Located in Nobby Beach (not Mermaid Beach as advertised via their instagram), BSKT is a haven for clean eating lifestyle junkies and aspiring yogis.
Even with all the hype I had heard around the place, I was instantly let down by their no name coffee machine and lack of any proud display showing off a roastery. For any coffee wise Melbournian (aka all of us), this is alarm bells!!!
Eggs Benedict is my go to item to judge a cafe on, yet with 'kalenaise' instead of hollandaise I wouldn't touch that with a stick!
So instead I had the simple salmon and rice, can't go wrong with that. For $15 it was filling... But bland :(
The Cypriot sandwich on the other hand was surprisingly flavoursome! Yet out friends in Cyprus would be disappointed by the lack of meat! The kale based pesto was good, but if you think of the oil base of pesto it leads you to question how healthy it really is. And that fried halloumi, capsicum and eggplant doused with oil added an interesting component to the gluten free bread. I don't think anything could disguise halloumi, or the rest of it, as healthy!
The smoothie list included mixes called "bounty" and "mirranda kerr" were expectedly healthy yet surprisingly yummy! I had the bounty and it was super yummy, you couldn't even tell that it was trying to be healthy! Has anyone realised that coconut based stuff aren't that healthy but instead full of natural fats?
Now to the coffee. A standard long black was abosultely butchered. The instagramable dark timber and imitation Tolix stools couldn't cover up the bitterness of it. After sending it back twice, they wiped the coffee from the bill because it was obviously never going to meet our Melbourne standards!
