Situated on Little Bourke Street, just around the corner from Melbourne Central is a hidden and surprising restaurant Tippo 00. Elegant without being over the top, everything from the interiors to the menu has been well thought out, without it looking so, making Italian food interesting and modern again.
Tippo 00 was named one of the 50 best new restaurants in Australia of 2015 and it's not hard to see why.
If you're a cheese person, you must try the Burrata for entre! It's so creamy and delicious and super satisfying. The tomato topping it comes with really compliments the flavours of the cheese and the home made bread beautifully.
Every single pasta on the menu is divine, trust me because I've tried them all! My favourite is the tagiolini de Nero, aka the squid ink pasta. At a price point, 20-$27 for a big bowl of fancy home made pasta is not bad at all, in fact it's probably the best meal you'll have at such a reasonable price in a long time! The gnocchi is my second favourite!
For desert, since I'm a self confessed chocoholic I can never get past the incredible "tippomisu", which is, you guessed it, their version of the classic tiramisu. I'm not usually a big fan of coffee flavours in things that aren't my coffee, which is what makes this dessert so me!
When the waiter delivers your perfectly presented plate, with little dots of cream, he pours even more chocolate on by pouring a thin and runny warm chocolate sauce! The chocolate smells soo good and you want to get straight into it! When you put your spoon into the cake shaped delight, the satisfying crunch sound of the chocolate shell contradicts the smooth feeling of the spoon gliding into it. This is the perfect dessert for any sweet tooth! With undertones of caramel, vanilla and chocolate, this is the perfect thing to share, or you can indulge and eat it all by yourself!! It's light but perfectly satisfies your sweet cravings!
It's a Great upmarket place without being upmarket place for dinner dates, lunch catch ups with friends or drinks and a snack. They often mix up their menu for special occasions such as Valentine's Day, or going for the chefs selection means that you will get to try a different take of all their incredible choices!
Only downside is that if you're a walk in table and they tell you that you have to be out by 6, they really mean it! You'll get the message loud and clear by them not filling up your water and reluctantly taking your dessert orders! Best be prepared and ring a week or so in advance for rush hour times.
Do definitely check it out next time you're in the city, or if you're looking for a place to go for your next dinner you'd be crazy not to try here!
