For some, 2016 was a negative year. For others, it was another year full of adventures and memories. In the fashion world, there were some styles that truly defined the year. We think most of these looks are sooo 2016 and should definitely be left behind!
1. Activewear obsession! We agree that it is cool to have funky gym wear that you are excited to put on and helps you feel confident. But we also think it is easy to get changed in the change room into some less skin tight clothes! If you're on a run down Chapel Street then of course you can wear your fave activewear outfit because you are actually being active. On the other hand, if you are going on a walk window shopping on Chapel Street after brunch then an activewear outfit probably isn't right for you.
2. "Sports luxe AKA wearing sneakers with anything We totally understand why sneakers have become the popular footwear of choice. Because they're so comfy! But this dependence on comfort has become boring, predictable and out of date now! Much like the activewear trend, wearing sneakers should only be reserved for the days when you're touring around a new city or taking your dog on a walk. There's so many more exciting shoe options out there that are just as comfy! 3. Singlets over t-shirts It was obvious that this wear saw a throw back to 90s trends, so you can see where this trend came from. But now that it is everywhere it is time to leave it alone. A plain white tee doesn't need a black singlet on top to elevate it, nothing beats a crisp white tee and denim! A friend of ours recently moved from Perth to Melbourne and asked if everyone was wearing two tops in preparation for our always changing weather! She asked that if it was too hot to people take off the underneath top and put it on again when it gets cold? No we replied! It is just a trend that has really taken over our city! 4. Jackets on shoulders
It does look effortlessly cool to have a fabulous jacket draped over your shoulders, but for anyone who has tried this look knows that it is more than the opposite of effortless! Restricted access to hand movements that don't distrust the balance of your jacket on the shoulders means this is impractical for anything other than sitting down and having a drink. If you're standing up and a gust of wind blows past, we'll, then you're going to be awkwardly clutching onto your jacket trying to stop it from falling off! Despite this, we do still love this look and will probably be guilty of continuing it through transitional seasons when it's too hot to actually wear the jacket but too cold to go without it!
